About the challenge
Welcome to the hackathon challenge! Our aim is to make it better and faster to transport medical samples from doctors' offices to Southampton General Hospital for testing. We want to develop a system that makes the delivery process more efficient. One way to do this is by combining routes from different services that go to the same places. This will help us use fewer vehicles, cover less distance, and save energy.
Your job is to create a smart system that can figure out which places we can deliver samples to together, so we can save time and resources. It's also important to choose the right vehicles for this task to make everything even more efficient.
To see if your solution works well, we will look at a few things. We will measure how far the vehicles travel, how many vehicles we need, how much money we save, or how much energy we save. If your solution can improve these things, it will show that your approach is effective.
By participating in this hackathon challenge, you have the chance to revolutionize how we transport medical samples. Your contribution can make the healthcare system smoother and more sustainable. Let's work together to optimize regional servicing and greatly improve the delivery of medical samples to Southampton General Hospital.

Requirements
What to Build
In this online hackathon, you have the opportunity to build innovative solutions addressing various challenges. Here are some project ideas you can consider:
-
Identifying Shared Delivery Routes and Couriers: Develop an algorithm or system that identifies shared delivery routes used by different couriers. This could help optimize resource utilization, reduce duplication, and promote collaboration among delivery services, ultimately leading to more efficient and eco-friendly delivery operations.
-
Shared Transportation Plotting Interface: Develop a user-friendly plotting interface that visually represents opportunities for shared transportation. The interface should allow users to input relevant data and display potential shared routes or areas where transportation resources can be optimized, leading to cost savings and reduced environmental impact.
-
Problem Analysis and Solutions for Delivery Process: Utilize the provided dataset to analyze the biggest challenges in the process of collecting and delivering items. Build a solution that identifies the root causes of these problems and proposes effective strategies to overcome them.
-
Integration of Additional Data Sets: Explore the integration of additional data sets to gain a better understanding of how to create a shared delivery system. Identify and incorporate relevant data sources that can provide valuable insights into optimizing resource allocation, improving efficiency, and reducing environmental impact.
-
Innovative Strategies for Efficient and Eco-Friendly Deliveries: Explore and propose innovative strategies to lower the number of vehicles used and promote the use of eco-friendly vehicles for deliveries.
Remember, these project ideas are just starting points. Feel free to customize, combine, or iterate on them to create a unique and impactful solution. Good luck with your project and make the most out of this hackathon experience!
What to Submit
To ensure your submission meets the requirements of the online hackathon, please include the following components:
-
Build a project using the required dataset provided by the hackathon organizers ("Pathology sample generation"). Your project should utilize and showcase the provided datasets in a meaningful way, addressing the problem statement.
-
Include a clear and concise text description that explains the features and functionality of your project. Describe how your solution addresses the problem, the key components or modules, and any innovative aspects that set it apart.
-
If your solution contains a code, create a public code repository for your project. Use GitHub as the platform for hosting your code. Ensure that your repository contains all the necessary source code files, dependencies, and any specific file types required for the component category.
-
Produce a demonstration video showcasing your project. The video should be around three to five minutes in length. Upload the video to a publicly visible platform such as YouTube, Vimeo, or Facebook Video. Provide a link to the video on the submission form on the hackathon website.
Your submission must be the original work of the submitter and solely owned by the submitter. It should not violate the intellectual property rights of any other person or entity. If your submission utilizes third-party tools, data, or open-source projects, ensure that you have the necessary authorization to use them and provide appropriate attribution. The demonstration video should not contain any third-party trademarks, copyrighted music, or materials unless you have obtained permission for both yourself and us to use such materials.
By submitting the required components as mentioned above, you will showcase your project's functionality, provide a clear explanation of its features, and comply with the intellectual property guidelines. Good luck with your submission!
